Sixteen checklists of compliance of the journal to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing version 4.0 published September 15, 2022 (joint statement by Committee on Publication Ethics [COPE], Directory of Open Access Journals [DOAJ], the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association [OASPA], and the World Association of Medical Editors [WAME]; are as follows.



1. Name of Journal

The official journal title is Clinics in Shoulder and Elbow, the abbreviation of ISO is Clin Shoulder Elbow.

The CiSE team endeavors to make a good website. CiSE website demonstrates that care has been taken to ensure high ethical and professional standards. It does not contain any misleading information, including any attempt to mimic another journal/publisher’s site.

3. Publishing Schedule

CiSE publishes quarterly (the first day of March, June, September, and December).

4. Archiving

CiSE provides electronic archiving and preservation of access to the journal content in the event the journal is no longer published, by archiving in the National Library of Korea ( According to the deposit policy (self-archiving policy) of Sherpa/Romeo (, authors can archive preprint (i.e., pre-refereeing), postprint (i.e., final draft post-refereeing), and publisher’s version/PDF.

5. Copyright

Copyright is owned by the publisher, the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society. Authors should transfer copyright to the publisher. This is an open-access journal distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

6. Licensing

CiSE is an open access journal distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons License (, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. To use the tables or figures of CiSE in other journals, books, or media for scholarly, educational purposes, the process of permission request to the publisher of CiSE is not necessary. All contents of the journal are available immediately upon publication without embargo period. Licensing information is indicated on all published papers (HTML and PDF) and on CiSE website.


7. Publication Ethics and Related Editorial Policies

In case the journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct, such as redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fraudulent or fabricated data, changes in authorship, an undisclosed conflict of interest, ethical problems with a submitted manuscript, a reviewer who has appropriated an author’s idea or data, complaints against editors, and so on, the resolution process will follow the flowchart provided by COPE ( The discussion and decision on the suspected cases are carried out by the Editorial Board.

8. Peer Review

Peer-Review Process

CiSE has on online submission and peer review system at Further details on peer review can be found under the Peer Review Policy . The basic policy is as follows.

All papers, including those invited by the Editor, are subject to peer review. Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by two accredited experts in the shoulder and elbow with one additional review by prominent member from our editorial board. The editor is responsible for the final decision whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected.

  • • The journal uses a double-blind peer review process: the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors, and vice versa. During the peer review process, reviewers can interact directly or exchange information (e.g., via submission systems or email) with only an editor, which is known as “independent review.”
  • • CiSE’s average turnaround time from submission to decision is 4 weeks.
  • • Decision letter will be sent to corresponding author via registered e-mail. Reviewers can request authors to revise the content. The corresponding author must indicate the modifications made in their item-by-item response to the reviewers’ comments. Failure to resubmit the revised manuscript within 4 weeks of the editorial decision is regarded as a withdrawal.
  • • The editorial committee has the right to revise the manuscript without the authors’ consent, unless the revision substantially affects the original content.
  • • After review, the editorial board determines whether the manuscript is accepted for publication or not. Once rejected, the manuscript does not undergo another round of review.
  • • All articles in CiSE include the dates of submission, revision, acceptance, and publication on their article page. No information about the review process or editorial decision process is published on the article page.

Submission by Editors

All manuscripts from editors, employees, or members of the editorial board are processed in the same way as other unsolicited manuscripts. During the review process, submitters will not engage in the selection of reviewers or the decision process. Editors will not handle their manuscripts even if the manuscripts are commissioned.
The conflict of interest declaration should be added as follows.
Conflicts of Interest: OOO has been an editorial board member of Clinics in Shoulder and Elbow since OOO but has no role in the decision to publish this article. No other potential conflicts of interest relevant to this article were reported.

9. Access

This is an open access journal. A free full-text service, both in XML and PDF formats, is available immediately upon publication without an embargo period.


10. Ownership and Management

This journal is owned by the publisher, the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society ( The corresponding author should agree to the copyright transfer during the submission process. The Editorial Board takes it granted that the co-authors also accept the copyright transfer per the acceptance by the corresponding author, who has a responsibility of submitting the copyright transfer agreement to the publisher.

13. Author Fees

There are no author fees required for manuscript processing and/or publishing materials in the journal since all cost is supported by the publisher, the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society until there is a policy change. Therefore, it is the so-called diamond open access journal.

14. Other Revenue

There is no author's submission fee or other publication related fee since every cost for the publication process is supported by the publisher (Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society) and Korea Government’s support.

15. Advertising

Journal of CiSE does not accept any commercial product advertisements until policy changes otherwise.

16. Direct Marketing

Journal propagation has been done through the journal website and distribution of an introduction pamphlet. Invitations to submit a manuscript are usually targeted towards presenters at conferences, seminars, or workshops related to the journal's aims and scope.

In addition, we declare that these principles acknowledge the responsibility of publishers and editors in promoting accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of publication. Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, and should not be influenced by the authors' nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion. CiSE is committed to ensuring that its policies do not create an exclusionary environment and will regularly evaluate them for inclusiveness.
